After a couple of not-so-great outings in the run up to this race, we had it all to prove on the start line. Our start wasn't the cleanest we've ever done, but the rhythm we settled onto was the best high-rate work we've done all term as a crew - long, powerful and a chunky rate 33. What was particularly impressive about this race was that that power and rhythm never really went. The standard "mid-Reach drop-off" never entered into it, and the work was being put down throughout. The pair-pushes up the Reach worked particularly well.

It is both unfortunate and frustrating that we were impeded so much by the St. Mary's crew. However, we should take the positives from this - we held it together well in the blade clashes, and more importantly, we got straight back onto our race rhythm with no messing about or lack of focus.

We easily lost 7 seconds from having to stop for St. Mary's, and this would place us 2nd in our category, and 5th overall. This is a result we deserve to be proud of, and I am excited to think that we have so much more speed yet to come!
